Protogenesis – a book that will give you a heartbeat!

September 30th 2018, By Terry Paganopoulou

I had the pleasure and the honor to meet Alysia Helming, author of Protogenesis. With Alysia I did a wonderful interview and she is an exceptional person, with a great vision and full of dreams. I have to admit that I knew a few things about the story of the book, but just enough to make me interested to read it. Unfortunately everyday obligations forced me to wait for the summer vacation to enjoy it. I had read the beginning of the book and it was so interesting that I was very excited to go on.

The main character of the book, Helene, is a teenage girl from America, who loses her mother and finds herself from one moment to the another, alone in Greece. In her quest to find out what has happened to her mother, she learns that what she knew about Greek mythology are not all lies and a fantastic adventure begins! At the same time, however, she finds herself “entangled” in a love triangle.

Who said that stories about teenage love are just for teenagers. We, the older ones, as well, want to remember once again the joy of love, excitement and passion. The amazing writing of Alysia is so vivid that you don’t just imagine pictures but you can feel them too. At the same time, she travels you to fantastic places and landscapes that enchant you.

I was in the middle of the book and I felt sadness as I did not want it to end. The worst part was that I knew that this book was only the beginning of the story. I’m an impatient woman. That’s why it’s not easy for me to watch tv series. I prefer to wait for all the episodes to end and then I see them all together. In this case, however, it didn’t seem to matter, as until the next book I will have the opportunity to bring the story in my mind, again and again, to imagine the landscapes and the characters that are involved, until I make the story “My own”.

As the book came to an end, I felt pleased that she had wrote the perfect ending, closing a circle of events without letting you worry about what has happened so far, and at the same time opening a new one, keeping your interest and excitement the next book.
